In November 2016, Rare launched a insider programme initiative to give select member access to an in development version of the game. Rare is using the programme for testing purposes and to get feedback from players.

The game was scheduled to launch on Windows and Xbox One in 2017, but it was later delayed into early 2018. The game will be part of Microsoft's Xbox Play Anywhere cross-buy program.
